Kiên Giang: Aquaculture sees positive growth

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) In the first nine months of 2024, aquaculture in Kien Giang province has shown potential growth, helping to offset the decline in capture fisheries.

The total value of aquatic product production in Kiên Giang province increased by over 2.89% in the first nine months of 2024; the total output of both capture and aquaculture increased slightly compared to the same period last year. Specifically: The value of aquatic product production in September 2024 is estimated at over 3,278 billion VND, down 7.44% compared to the previous month but up 5.36% compared to the same period last year: the value of capture fisheries decreased by 9.90% compared to the previous month, down 3.83% compared to the same period; the value of aquaculture decreased by 6.03% compared to the previous month, up 11.19% compared to the same period. In the first nine months of 2024, the value of aquatic product production is estimated at 26,339.90 billion VND, reaching 73.64% of the annual plan, up 2.89% compared to the same period last year.

Capture fisheries in the province continue to decline; aquaculture is growing well, helping to compensate for the decline in capture fisheries and contributing to the relatively high growth of the fisheries sector.

Accordingly, the output of aquatic products (both capture and aquaculture) in September 2024 is estimated at 76,560 tons, down 2.78% compared to the previous month, down 1.62% compared to the same period last year. In the first nine months of 2024, the output of aquatic products is estimated at 597,291 tons, reaching 74.66% of the plan, up 1.8% compared to the same period last year: The value of capture fisheries reached 74.96% of the annual plan and decreased by 1.30%; the value of aquaculture reached 74.3% of the annual plan and increased by 5.79% compared to the same period. Of which, fish reached 291,398 tons, down 0.88%; shrimp reached 127,047 tons, up 4.95%; squid reached 44,092 tons, down 3.56% and other aquatic products reached 134,754 tons, up 6.98%.

Aquaculture output in the first nine months of 2024 is estimated at 271,213 tons, reaching 74.30% of the annual plan and up 5.79% compared to the same period last year. Of which: Shrimp reached 106,064 tons, reaching 81.59% of the plan, up 6.88%; other aquatic products reached 102,885 tons, reaching 88.22% of the plan, up 4.17%, ...

Aquaculture output has increased quite well, partly due to the increase in farming area, and the application of science and technology in aquaculture has increasingly brought results with higher productivity and product quality. Aquaculture output increased compared to the same period with some types such as: Whiteleg shrimp, black tiger shrimp and some other types of molluscs such as crab, sweet snail, mussel, oyster, ... and some species of fish in offshore cages such as sea bass, grouper, cobia,...
