Researched and bred from a cross between the mother breed BVN and the father breed OM4900 (BVN/OM4900). After 4 years, 8 crops, the collective of authors of the Southern Seed Joint Stock Company (SSC) successfully selected and created the line CT286 -17-1-1-1. After domestication, this line was coded chemicalized and named Dai Thom 8 (DT8). From production results in different seasons, on April 11, 2017, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development officially recognized the variety Dai Thom 8 (DT8). Dai Thom 8 (DT8) has a growing period of 90-100 days.

Rice grains are long, curved, and clear white in color. Medium soft, spongy, lightly fragrant and rich in flavor.
