Scientific name: Auxis thazard
English name: Frigate mackerel
Morphological characteristics: Body is diamond-shaped, slightly long and round. There are two dorsal fins far apart. Behind the second dorsal fin there are 8 additional fins. Behind the anal fin there are 7 secondary fins. Light black, dark black head. There are many black diagonal stripes on the scaleless body on the lateral line. The body is dark gray, the head is darker. The abdomen is silvery white, the pectoral and pelvic fins are pinkish, the anal fin and small fins are white.
Distribution: Tropical and subtropical Atlantic, Pacific, Indian Ocean, south to coastal Oceania, west, to eastern and southern Africa. In Vietnam, distributed mainly in the Central, Eastern and Southwestern seas.
The fishing season for shrew tuna is all year round. This is one of the economically valuable and widely caught tuna species.
Mining size: Ranging from 150 - 310 mm, mainly 250-260 mm.
