Ca Mau Shrimp will expand its exports to countries around the world

(seafood.vasep.com.vn) The “Bien Bach Dong Commune Shrimp-Rice Project” in Ca Mau province was granted the second BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices of the Global Aquaculture Alliance) certificate for shrimp products in the shrimp-rice specialized area in Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province.

On September 5, a representative of Bureau Veritas in Vietnam awarded the BAP (Best Aquaculture Practices of the Global Aquaculture Alliance) certificate to Minh Phu Certified Shrimp Social Company Limited, the unit accompanying farmers to implement the “Bien Bach Dong Commune Shrimp-Rice Project” in Thoi Binh district, Ca Mau province.

This is the second international certification (after ASC) in the shrimp-rice specialized area of Thoi Binh district and the first BAP certification to be implemented in the shrimp-rice specialized area of Vietnam.

There are 231 households participating in the above shrimp farming practice chain with a total area of over 696 ha/296 ponds in 6 hamlets of Bien Bach Dong commune. Accompanying local farmers is a team of experts from Minh Phu Certified Shrimp Social Company Limited and the German Development Cooperation Organization (GIZ) in Vietnam.

When achieving BAP certification, Ca Mau shrimp in particular, and Vietnamese shrimp in general will have a wide path to export to most countries in the world. "There are many standards that have been and are being applied in aquaculture in Vietnam, such as SQF, GlobalGAP, ASC, BAP, Naturland, AquaGAP, VietGAP... However, the very important standards that are commonly applied to exported shrimp today are ASC, GlobalGAP, and BAP,"  said the GIZ representative in Vietnam.

The biggest benefit of ASC certification is to solve the problem of sustainable shrimp farming for small-scale farming, minimize negative environmental impacts, and ensure social benefits. Contribute to changing production habits, the way farmers and businesses think about sustainable shrimp farming, and aim for the highest goal of sustainable development of the 4 pillars of the environment: society, security, animals, and food safety.

This is a favorable condition to promote the image of Ca Mau shrimp to the world market, especially demanding markets like Europe.
