7 'billion dollar bright spots' in agricultural export
Although weather conditions in the first 6 months of the year were not favorable, agricultural, forestry and fishery production still grew steadily, meeting domestic consumption and export needs.
The export situation of agricultural products in the first 6 months of the year shows positive development. According to the Report of the Center for Digital Transformation and Agricultural Statistics (Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development), the country's agricultural export turnover has increased significantly compared to the same period last year.
The total export turnover of agricultural, forestry and fishery production in the first 6 months of the year reached 29,2 billion USD, up 19% over the same period in 2023. Specifically, major agricultural products reached 15,76 billion USD, up 24,4%; major forestry products reached 7,95 billion USD, up 21,2%; fishery products reached 4,36 billion USD, up 4,9% and livestock products reached 240 million USD, an increase of 3,8%.
Contributing to that result, there are 7 products and product groups with an export value of over 1 billion USD, including coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wood products. In the first half of 2024, agricultural exports will have positive growth in export value and the consumer market will expand. Key products such as rice, coffee, cashew nuts and fruits have grown significantly in reaching and dominating the international market.
With innovation in marketing and promotion strategies, Vietnamese agricultural products have enhanced their image and brand value in the international market. These activities contribute to increasing trust and confidence from international investors and consumers. Not only did the Government promulgate Official Dispatch No. 13/CD-TTg dated February 6, 2024 on strengthening logistics connections to promote consumption and export of agricultural, forestry and fishery products, the government also promoted the implementation of mechanisms and policies. to promote trade. Support for businesses in resolving commercial disputes and troubleshooting is also implemented effectively.
This year there was also strong investment in improving product quality and production processes. Thereby improving the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market. The application of international food safety and quality standards also brings a competitive advantage to Vietnam's agricultural products.
In addition to the above highlights, there are still challenges and difficulties such as climate change, competition from other producing countries and fluctuating market factors. Therefore, Vietnam needs to make efforts to innovate and improve competitiveness. From there, we can solve difficulties and create favorable conditions for exporting agricultural products in the coming time.
